Paul Wyatt for Dana Point City Council 2016

Proven Leadership. Residents First.

Both PAUL WYATT and DEBRA LEWIS, the citizens' candidates for the Dana Point City Council, have demonstrated dedication, along with outstanding character and the professional experience needed to lead our City. As leaders in the Town Center Initiative and the passage of Measure H, both PAUL and DEBRA want to see the community able to vote on Dana Point’s future.

New, competent and trustworthy leaders with “no strings attached” to city or developer funding for their jobs or candidacy must be elected!

"I believe in practical, common-sense leadership that keeps residents informed, involved and unites our community. This is why I am running for City Council. My goal is to strengthen Dana Point economically and promote growth while preserving the qualities that make Dana Point one of America’s best beach towns.

For two years, residents implored Council members to follow the 2008 Town Center Plan and create a pedestrian-friendly village of restaurants, shops and small businesses. These citizens were scorned and ignored, left with no choice but to launch the Save Dana Point Measure H Initiative; to battle for the soul of Dana Point. I am proud to have been at the core of this movement.

As we develop opportunities for improved vibrancy, increased revenue, and updated infrastructure, I’m committed to protecting what we cherish — a community where children excel in a safe environment, businesses flourish, and a beach town character prevails. This will benefit both residents and visitors in all parts of our city while embracing our surfing heritage and protecting our ocean and beaches.

I’ll bring the leadership, transparency, and community outreach to the Council with the passion, tenacity and experience to get things done."

Paul Wyatt Biography

Paul Wyatt and his wife Doreen live in the Lantern District of Dana Point. They make this beautiful beach town their home to because of the quality of life it offers. Access to the ocean they love, family-orientated neighborhoods and small-town charm make it the perfect place to enjoy life.

During Paul’s daily runs the Save Dana Point signs in front of homes caught his attention. He had already researched the 2008 Town Center Plan and liked what was happening on the PCH and Del Prado even if the number of palm trees and the arch were a bit over enthusiastic. Further digging uncovered the September 2015 parking ordinances the city council had voted in which changed the plan. But it was the decision by the City Council to put Measure I on the ballot that shocked him into jumping in with both feet to ensure that this misleading initiative would be defeated. His digging into the facts and going door-to-door informing residents was critical to the getting Measure H passed and Measure I defeated.

Paul spent 45 years in high-tech, 30 as an engineering executive, and the last 9 in clean-tech. Most recently he was Vice President of Software Engineering at Liquid Robotics responsible for designing, building and deploying ocean-going robots to monitor the world’s oceans. Working with oceanographers to better monitor and measure water quality, environmental agencies to detect oil leaks and pollution run-off, and coast guards to limit over-fishing and police marine protected areas were the parts of the job that Paul enjoyed most. Prior to Liquid Robotics, Paul spent 6 years launching and building a solar energy company, Recurrent Energy, where he was responsible for operating and maintaining commercial and utility-scale solar power plants around the world. He also managed customer service and information technology and designed the systems that allowed these plants to be operated remotely. Both these companies are successful thriving businesses today.

Paul Wyatt is a savvy businessman; an expert in business operations, product engineering and information technology. A visionary with pragmatic leadership skills who can bring partners, suppliers and customers together to realize that vision is what has made Paul a successful businessman. His expertise in business operations and product engineering make it possible for Paul to find solutions that meets the needs of the disparate organizations that must all work together for success. Paul has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Paul and his wife have been married for 34 years and have two grown children, a daughter who lives in Aliso Viejo and a son who lives in Portland, Oregon. Paul is frequently seen paddle boarding in harbor, running at Salt Creek or working as part of the Tall Ships Crew at the Ocean Institute.
